Winter Workshop 2019

Knight Fights, in partnership with Stage Combat YYC, is proud to offer this semester style certification workshop. Over the course of 12 weeks students will learn and be tested for certification in The Academy of Fight Directors Canada Intermediate Actor Combatant skill set.

 

Intermediate Actor Combatant is the second level of certification with Fight Directors Canada. At this level students begin to study historical fighting styles in broad strokes. Weapon systems studied at this level are:

  1. Unarmed Martial Arts
  2. Smallsword
  3. Longsword
  4. Rapier & Dagger

Instructional Staff:

 

Brianna Johnston is a Calgary based actor and violence designer, and a graduate of the Theatre Arts program at Mount Royal University. A certified Fight Instructor and Paddy Crean Award winner with the Academy of Fight Directors Canada, she has had the immense pleasure of teaching students as young as five, as well as creating violence for many stages and shows in the Calgary area. Favorite fight credits include Peter Pan (CYPT),Goodnight Desdemona, Good Morning Juliet (The Shakespeare Company), and Wait Until Dark (Assistant Fight Director, Vertigo Theatre)

 

 

John Knight is a graduate of the University of Lethbridge BFA acting program. He is a Certified Instructor with The Academy of Fight Directors Canada and the owner operator of Knight Fights. As a Calgary based theatre artist he has had the honour to direct violence on small and large stages throughout the city. He has had the great privilege to both mentor and be mentored by countless theatre artists from all over the world. Select fight direction credits include: Julius Caesar (The Shakespeare Company), Filumena (Calgary Opera), and The Monument (Theatre of Consequence).

 

Dates:

Classes will run Saturdays from 8:15am – 5:45pm, January 12 – March 30 (no class Feb 16th)

Location:

Hillhurst United Church, 1227 Kensignton Close NW, Calgary, AB

Cost:

$1,650/student*

Includes over 80 hours of instructional time, use of weapons, adjudication and registration fees with FDC

How to Register:

Students must have Fight Directors Canada certification at the level of Basic Actor Combatant or higher.**

Space is limited to eight students so book soon to avoid disappointment!

A non-refundable deposit of $150 will secure your space in the class.
